Visitors to the Sacred Cathedral website might be aware that the Holy Father, Pope Francis, recently announced that in response to the current war in Ukraine, he would celebrate a solemn Act of Consecration of the nations of Ukraine and Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on Friday 25 March 2022. The Act of Consecration will take place during a celebration of the Sacrament of Penance within St Peter's Basilica at around 6.30pm Rome Time (about 4.30am on Saturday morning on the east coast of Australia).
This Act of Consecration is a solemn act of Pope Francis as the Universal Pastor of the Church, in which he has invited his brother bishops around the world to join him in making. It is not an act that individual members of the faithful or individual priests can make; it is a prerogative of the Pope alone.
However, the Pope has shared the text of his solemn Act of Consecration so that all the members of the Church might reflect on what he, along with the bishops of the world, is doing in our name and on our behalf in this time of crisis in Ukraine and the world. The text of the Act of Consecration can be found below so that you might join your own personal prayer with that of the Holy Father.
